The entrance to Rocky Mountains National Park from Loveland, Colorado is via highway 34 through Big Thompson Canyon, a picturesque drive following the river and into Estes Park, Colorado. The weather can be unpredictable so be prepared for any type of adverse conditions. Carry at least the basic items for survival even on day hikes. The 265,000 acre park has something for all ages and physical capabilities.

Estes Park is a nice place to stop and relax with numerous restaurants, overnight accomodations and shopping areas. One of the highlights of Estes Park is the Stanley Hotel built by F.O. (Freelan Oscar) Stanley, original designer of the Stanley Steamer, a steam powered automobile. The hotel opened in 1909, for more information go to their website at www.stanleyhotel.com.
